Photos of

Steel & Tube

The company needed quality photos to tell the story of their products and their people for their Annual Report and other communications.

From the floor under your feet to the roof over your head, and the nuts and bolts in between, Steel & Tube have been building New Zealand for almost 70 years.

It was important to photograph real working sites with real people

The photography brief detailed the kind of shots Steel & Tube were looking for. This included everything from photos of staff at their Customer Excellence centre, right through to capturing the working power of their trucks and machinery. They wanted to highlight their safety software and see interesting photos of their staff against steel. It was also important to have images that could have copywriting superimposed across them.

The photo shoot had to be well managed to ensure the safety of everyone at these full industrial working sites.

Birgit has photographic experience working on industrial, manufacturing and building sites, she put on her steel capped boots and got started. With health and safety a top priority, a foreman was with her to ensure the safety of everyone. While the company had already organised some staff to be photographed, with others Birgit needed to approach them on the spot, convince them to take part in the photo shoot and gain their trust so they could relax in front of the camera. By using interesting perspectives, angles and contrasts, Birgit got truly stunning shots that the client was thrilled with.

“Thanks for the tremendous work you’ve done on this, you’ve made the products and people come alive. I like the realism and colour tones of the photos – exactly what I’m after.”
