Photos for

Generation Homes

Birgit worked with Generation Homes’ advertising agency, Bonfire.

She photographed a range of images to use in their lookbook, trade ads, bus ads, trade show posters and other advertising and marketing material.

As the name suggests, the client needed photographs to tell a visual story of various generations enjoying the lifestyle a Generation Home offers. The images needed to be inviting and fun, showing a lived in home with great indoor outdoor flow. No matter the age or stage of life of their customers, Generation Homes builds a place to for them to belong that will stand the test of time.

Prior to the photo shoot, Birgit went to see the location, a Generation Homes show home in Riverhead.

For a photo shoot like this, visiting the location is an absolute necessity. Viewing the space helped Birgit plan the day, anticipate potential challenges and know which gear she would need to bring. Decisions were made about which rooms would be photographed and where the makeup stylist, clothes racks, props and catering could be set up. Birgit was able to assess the available light and its direction, so she could plan when to photograph each room. She was also able to check details like how visible the neighbouring properties are and if the windows are clean.

With a finalised plan in place, Simone, the Art Director, got to work organising the props for each story. Meanwhile, Birgit hired the talent and a hair and make-up stylist, and organised the clothing.

Generation Homes used Birgit’s photos in their lookbook to help potential customers imagine living in their new home.

With a long shot list and lots of people on set, the shoot had to be well managed.

Working with children requires both organisation and flexibility. To get the best photos of them, they need plenty of breaks and the shoot needs to be fun. An area was designated for the kids to play in between set ups and whenever they needed to recharge. Birgit recommends talking at each child’s level and having plenty of rewards like snacks and little toys on hand.

On the day there were plenty of challenges to work around. Despite having to manage the usable time with the children and too much sunlight (sometimes Birgit had to wait for clouds to make the light softer), Birgit was happy to provide the client with all the images they needed in the required time frame.

Birgit was amazing - she provided invaluable advice during the planning stage, sourced our models, worked hard to get the most out of everyone on the day, and worked closely with me to ensure the look and feel was met. Everyone loves the results.”
