Healthcare photos: Pacific Edge

Photos for website, social media, print material and communications with clients, shareholders and potential investors.

Pacific Edge specialise in innovative cancer diagnostic tests that contribute to the detection and management of cancer. As a cutting edge company they understand the need to invest in a quality photo image library.

Before the photo shoot Birgit visited the client in Dunedin to view the facilities.

This was an invaluable part of the photography process, not only so she could be properly prepared, but she was also able to make some recommendations to the client. Birgit advised the staff should wear new branded lab coats and tight fitting rubber gloves in a matching company colour, and that any unnecessary items such as extra boxes and rubbish bins be removed from the shoot location. While these items are needed in a working lab, they can draw attention away from the people and products that Pacific Edge want to showcase. Prior to the photo shoot Birgit also familiarised herself with the required health and safety procedures.

Photographing in a small space like a lab can be challenging.

Achieving depth of field for selected focus and positioning light equipment so it’s out of shot can be difficult. This is where having the right equipment and years of experience come into play. With an assistant to hold lights under work spaces and around corners, Birgit was able to get light into the right areas, even with machines in the way. With intellectual property and prototypes to take into consideration, confidentiality was crucial throughout this project. During the photo session Birgit liaised with the client to ensure the products were shown correctly, with all final images submitted for their approval.

“I worked with Birgit on a recent clinical lab shoot and she was great. She's very professional, with an eye for detail and a talent for putting people at ease. Most importantly, the quality of the photography was excellent.”
